Broadway Gynecology most commonly performs 4 types of ultrasound examinations – transvaginal scans, advanced scans, fetal scans and Doppler scans. Transvaginal scans require the insertion of an ultrasonic wand into the vagina in order to see the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, vagina, and cervix. Advanced scans are used to examine the breasts for masses or other anomalies.
Fetal ultrasounds examine a fetus for growth, anatomical problems, or birth defects while Doppler scans can be performed during any ultrasound examination to look at the blood flow into or out of an organ. Your nurse will give you detailed instructions on how to prepare for your ultrasound. Since ultrasound examinations are non-invasive, there’s no recovery time and you can return to normal activities the same day.
