How do I know if I have a yeast infection?

An annual GYN check up begins with a complete medical history to look for risk factors and other issues that may need to be evaluated. Patients will also be asked about any symptoms or concern they have. Blood pressure and weight are measured and recorded, and a clinical breast exam and pelvic exam will be performed. A Pap test, HPV screening, or STD testing may also be performed. Depending on each patient’s risk factors, additional testing may be performed or ordered, including urine tests, blood work, or mammograms. Patients may also receive guidance regarding STDs, pregnancy, birth control, menopause, or other relevant issues.

What are the symptoms of a yeast infection?

  • Tell the provider what your short-term and long-term goals are.
  • Do you have the information you want about clinical status, diagnostic tests, and treatment options?
  • What are your principal stresses in life?
  • How should your family and friends be included appropriately in planning and providing care?
  • Are there clear plans for continuing care and treatment?

What are some medications and treatment options for yeast infections?

An annual gynecology exam is a very important part of maintaining optimal health throughout a woman’s life. By having an exam each year, it’s easier to spot early changes that can indicate the presence of a disease so treatment can be provided as soon as possible. Annual exams also help ensure patients receive appropriate testing and screening at every age, as well as guidance and education to help them stay healthy. And finally, annual exams provide opportunities to speak with a doctor about medical concerns for greater peace of mind.

What about home remedies for Yeast infection?

During a pelvic exam, the patient will lie on the exam table with her feet in the supports or “stirrups.” After the external genitalia is visually evaluated, a warmed, lubricated speculum will be inserted into the vagina and used to widen the vaginal canal. If a Pap test or HPV test is being performed, a long-handled swab will be used to remove a small amount of cells from the cervix and surrounding tissues. A visual exam will also be performed using a bright light. Once the area has been examined, the speculum will be released and removed. A digital examination may also be performed to palpate the ovaries and uterus, checking for areas of swelling or tenderness or other unusual features that may require additional evaluation with diagnostic imaging.
